- 殿 — lord; palace; nobleman
- 〜殿 — formal suffix (Mr. / Ms. / Sir)
- 殿堂 — hall; grand building
- 神殿 — temple; shrine hall
- 宮殿 — palace
- 拝殿 — main worship hall of a shrine
The radical 殳(るまた)means “weapon” or “action” — originally a hand holding a tool or weapon. Combined with the upper structure, 殿 came to mean a large, stately building — a place belonging to someone of high rank or authority. By extension, it’s also used as an honorific for people, as in 〜殿.
