This radical represents negation and prohibition in classical usage. As a component, it appears as the 毋- or 母-like shape. See Note.

Kanji Using This Radical

Note: Though 毋 and 母 are different characters, their shapes are so similar that many dictionaries treat them under the same radical. 毋 is read as nakare in classical usage, meaning “do not,” while 母 is read as haha, meaning “mother.”
