❓ FAQ (Q&A)
Is Kanji World free to use?
Yes. Kanji World is completely free and 100% ad-free. There are no subscriptions, no pop-ups, and no hidden limits. It is designed as a long-term learning resource that stays simple, focused, and easy to use on any device.
What makes Kanji World different from other kanji sites?
Kanji World is designed as a connected learning system, not just a collection of kanji pages. It covers all Jōyō kanji and shows how they function across multiple layers of learning.
  • Kanji — meanings, readings, and structure
  • Words — how kanji combine to form vocabulary
  • Grammar — including particles and conjugation support
  • Real usage — through over 1,800 Sayings+ expressions
With integrated voice guides and a mobile-first design, Kanji World helps learners move from recognizing characters to understanding how Japanese is actually used.
What levels are covered?
Kanji World currently covers all Jōyō kanji, along with additional characters beyond the standard set. The site is organized into progressive levels, from beginner to advanced, so learners can study step by step.

Kanji World is now in a second phase of development. The core framework is already in place, and the focus has shifted to deepening the learning system — including richer vocabulary sections, more Sayings+ entries, additional conjugation support, and stronger links between related content.
What is the “101 series” in Kanji World?
The 101 series is a set of beginner-friendly foundation guides. It includes Kana 101, Kanji 101, Words 101, Particles 101, and Conjugation 101. These sections help learners build a solid base before moving into more detailed kanji, vocabulary, and grammar study.
What is the Sayings+ system?
Sayings+ is one of the core features of Kanji World. It helps learners understand how kanji work together in real Japanese through idioms, proverbs, and everyday expressions.

Kanji World currently includes over 1,800 Sayings+ entries. These appear in two main places:
  • the sayings top page, where you can explore expressions more broadly
  • the Sayings+ tab inside individual kanji pages
Each entry is designed to connect characters to actual usage, often with voice guidance and example sentences in Japanese and English. This makes Sayings+ a bridge between isolated kanji study and living Japanese expression.
How do I search?
Tap the icon anywhere on the site, or go directly to the Search page. You can type:
  • an English word
  • a Japanese reading in kana
  • or a kanji character directly
You can also paste more than one kanji at a time. Note: English-word results may include related kanji, not only exact dictionary matches. You can also explore character groups through the Radical Explorer.
What are the voice guides?
Voice support is an important part of Kanji World. Many pages include an English Voice guide that explains meaning, usage, or learning points in a quick and accessible way. Some pages also include a Japanese Voice for pronunciation support.

Just tap the orange E-voice tab or the headphone icon to listen.
How can radical pages help my learning?
Radical pages help you notice how kanji share common parts. Once you begin recognizing these building blocks, many characters become easier to compare, group, and remember.

On kanji pages, you can tap the blue Radical Exp button to explore related characters and patterns. This is especially helpful when learning kanji families rather than isolated forms.
What is the best device to use Kanji World?
Kanji World is built with a mobile-first design, so a smartphone is often the easiest and most natural way to use it. Tablets and desktop computers also work well, especially for longer browsing sessions.

As long as you use a modern browser and have sound enabled, you can access the full site experience on your device.
Can teachers use Kanji World in class?
Yes. Teachers are welcome to use Kanji World as a classroom resource and share pages with students. The site works well for both guided instruction and independent review. Its structure also makes it useful for introducing kanji, radicals, vocabulary patterns, and real expressions in a connected way.
How can I give feedback or suggestions?
We welcome corrections, comments, and ideas for improvement. If you notice an error, want to suggest a new feature, or have thoughts about how the system could be improved, please contact us at info@kanji-world.com.
Is my connection secure?
Yes. Kanji World runs on HTTPS (SSL), the standard security technology used by major websites. Page loading, searching, and audio playback are all protected through encrypted connections.
