Who We Are (Our Mission)

Kanji World is an independent, non-profit project. Our mission is to create an open and accessible environment for learning Japanese — not just kanji in isolation, but Japanese as a living language. It serves not only foreign learners; Japanese users also use it to explore English through kanji, making Kanji World a truly bilingual learning tool. We believe kanji are not simply characters to memorize, but gateways to a deeper understanding of language and culture. The design of Kanji World encourages free exploration, allowing users to move naturally from page to page, where one discovery leads to the next.

Where We Stand (Looking Ahead)

We are steadily expanding Kanji World, step by step. All 2,136 Jōyō kanji pages are now online, forming a complete core reference, while final editing and voice coverage continue to be refined. Alongside this, we’ve launched Sayings+, a dedicated section for idioms and proverbs cross-linked with kanji pages and supported by English notes, E-voice guides, and powerful search tools. New features such as Curious+ invite learners to pause, think, and explore how kanji are actually used before diving deeper. Looking ahead, we aim to enrich audio coverage, add thematic collections, and publish cultural mini-guides. Kanji World is a long-term, nonprofit project — innovative, accessible, and designed to make learning both thoughtful and enjoyable.
