About Kanji World 日本語

Kanji World is a free, ad-free, long-term learning project designed to make Japanese easier to explore and more rewarding to understand. It is not just a collection of kanji pages. It is a connected system that links kanji to vocabulary, grammar, radicals, voice support, and real Japanese usage. It is built for Japanese learners, but it also serves Japanese users as a bilingual tool — connecting kanji knowledge with English learning in a natural and engaging way.

Who We Are (Our Mission) 日本語

Kanji World is an independent, nonprofit project. Our mission is to create an open and accessible environment where learners can move beyond memorizing kanji in isolation and begin to understand Japanese as a connected, living language. We believe kanji are not simply symbols to be stored in memory. They are gateways to words, patterns, expressions, and culture. That is why Kanji World is designed for exploration: one page leads naturally to the next, so that curiosity becomes part of the learning process.

• 101 Series — beginner-friendly guides for Kana, Kanji, Words, Particles, and Conjugation. These sections help learners build a solid foundation before moving into deeper study.
• All Jōyō Kanji Coverage — Kanji World now covers all Jōyō kanji, with additional characters beyond the standard set also included in parts of the site.
• Interactive Kanji Pages — readings, meanings, vocabulary, example sentences, stroke order, related expressions, and learning insights. Many pages also include voice support.
• Radical Explorer — browse kanji by radical and discover how characters are structured, grouped, and connected.
• Smart Search — search across the site using English, kana, kanji, and mixed text. Search results can lead you from meaning to form, and from form to usage.
• Sayings+ — over 1,800 idioms, proverbs, and everyday expressions linked to and from kanji pages, helping learners see how characters function in real Japanese.
• Curious+ — a space for observation, comparison, and discovery, where learners can pause and think before tapping deeper.
• KFR 3000 — structured high-frequency kanji lists with direct links and browsing support.
• Voice Guides — short and accessible audio guidance in English on many pages, with Japanese voice support on selected pages.

Where We Stand (Phase Two) 日本語

Kanji World has now entered a second phase of development. The core framework is already in place: all Jōyō kanji are covered, the main study paths are established, and major systems such as Sayings+, Radical Explorer, and smart search are fully active. The focus now is not simply to add more pages, but to deepen the learning experience — by enriching vocabulary sections, expanding Sayings+, increasing conjugation support, refining voice coverage, and strengthening the links between related content. In other words, the project is shifting from broad construction to deeper integration.

Recent Additions 日本語

Here are some of the recent developments in Kanji World:

• Sayings+ expanded — the collection now includes more than 1,800 entries across proverbs, idioms, and everyday expressions.
• All Jōyō kanji online — the full core range is now available across the site.
• Vocabulary development phase — vocabulary sections are being expanded and refined as part of the project’s second phase.
• Conjugation support growing — more conjugation blocks and related guidance are being added across the system.
• Curious+ continues to grow as a space for thinking, pausing, and discovering patterns in kanji usage.
