焼く(やく) is a godan verb ending in く. It is commonly used for cooking (grilling or baking food) as well as for burning, such as パンを焼く (bake bread) or 紙を焼く (burn paper).
燒 is the traditional form of 焼 and includes the 火 (fire) radical. It reflects heating, roasting, or cooking something. In modern usage, 焼 is more common, but the traditional form 燒 may still appear in names or historical texts.
